As saints of Christ, the forces of hell are angry every single moment because of the power we possess. The kingdom of darkness commune and hold meetings everyday strategizing how to make us fall short of the mercy of God.
Most times this evil plan come in form of temptations.
What is temptation?
Temptation means to cause allurement so evil or an occasion of enticement. Temptations are seen by God as a means of testing our faithfulness to Him.
Our Lord Jesus Christ was tempted by the devil when he was on Earth, so we too,as His disciples on Earth must also be tested at a point in our spiritual journey.
We are to pray to the Lord for the Spirit of resistance so we can scale through the difficult time of temptation which God has allowed to happen to us.
There are various forms in which the devil tempt the saints of Christ, ranging from lustful spirit to affliction but we will be focusing today on the 3 common temptations the saints pass through.
Although these are the only three which are common they are also very significant as the devil uses mostly these three forms to tempt believers of Christ.
I pray after you have read this short and informative post you'll be aware of the forms of temptations and means in which the devil tempts the saints of Christ. On knowing this you will be prepared when Satan uses anyone or anybody to tempt you and you resist him by upholding to the faith you have in Christ Jesus.
Without wasting more time here are they:
One: Desirous of vain glory (Galatians 5:13, Galatians 6:12-13, Philippians 2:1-3 Colossians 2:18)
The devil is very sly and wicked . He digs deep to find out every Christians weakness and most of the times it is always fame or earthly pleasures.
Most Christians who haven't fully submitted and surrendered all to God still have hidden desires to indulge in earthly things and pleasures. They feel it's too hard to serve God in this present age and forsake totally everything including their fleshly desires. They don't really understand that they have to crucify their flesh every single day because the devil is always looking for an entry into our soul to make us fall.
This is the most common temptation because it is related to human nature, in the sense that, human beings, or better still Christians, even though have repented and given their life to Jesus Christ still find it hard to completely surrender all to God and forsake vainglory and things of this world.
We should try our best as saints of Christ to say no to the devil's arrows of lust of this world that he shoots at us everyday.
We should crucify the flesh every single day and surrender all that we are to God since he's the only one who can help us overcome any temptation.
Are you a new born again Christian and are finding it hard to forsake all your old desires and sinful ways? Let me know in the comments section below and I will see if I can be of help to you.
Two: Provoking one another (Philippians 2:1-3, Ephesians 4:31-32, Colossians3:8-10)
In churches today, there's a lot of unnecessary competition and enmity between the body of Christ as in the time of the early church.
This is another means the devil is using to tempt our obedience to His word. The Lord has instructed us to not allow bitterness, wrath, anger, malice, evil speaking, and unforgiven spirit to settle in the heart of the body of Christ.
Sometimes when your friend or relative mocks or slanders you, you should know that it is the devil trying to use that person to tempt you. If the person persistently disturbs you to the point that you get angry,is that is what the devil wants and you should immediately rebuke the evil spirits controlling that person....but please, do it in a polite manner.
The devil wants the Spirit of anger, intolerance and annoyance to settle into our hearts but the Lord has assured us that between the offender and the offended it is the offender that is guilty of the sin the offended committed.
Three: Envying one another(Romans 13:13, 1st Corinthians 3:3, 2nd Corinthians 12:20, 1st Timothy 6:4, Titus 3:3, James 3:14-16, 1st Peter 2:1)
As I mentioned earlier, there is a lot of competition and jealousy in the church. Also, ministers of Christ envy other ministers of Christ whom are relatively more successful than them and so, this causes so much strain on the church and its members.
The servants working in the house of God who are keeping malice, getting envious of a fellow brethren and backbiting against the person affects the church very badly as the church members are not given the solid gospel of Christ but the “competitor-based” version of the word.
This is another common means the devil uses to sabotage the church and tempts the servant of God. He knows that by placing the Spirit of jealousy and envy in the heart of servants of God, they lose focus of their true purpose which is praising and serving God.
We must pray against the spirit of envy, jealousy and malice anytime we feel that we may be losing focus of our work in church and paying more attention to the success of someone we know.
And that is all!
Even though the devil is trying and trying and trying hard to make the saints of God backslide, our Lord is faithful and abiding to be with us and give us the Spirit of overcoming all temptations from Satan.
The devil is strong but our Almighty God is stronger and he will never forsake his children.
