The main reason why many Christians prayers are unanswered is because of the hidden and open sins in their lives.
When one wants his prayers to be answered but still lives in secret sins, that person is deceiving him/herself and is regarded as an hypocrite.
The way of God is all about righteousness and holiness, therefore, to receive from God one must live according to God's principles.
Here are some major reasons why God doesn't answer our prayers and why our telephone cords to heaven has been cut:
1. LUSTS
Many Christians lust for earthly things to satisfy their animalistic desires e.g list for women, lust for money, list for pleasure, lust for power, lust for position.. to mention a few.
2. MURDERS
Some Christians kill unknowingly;this does not mecessarily mean killing human beings but when you kill the potential and zeal of others, when you encourage the evil person to commit atrocities; you are also guilty of the offense.
In this regards, many Christian women are found faulty in the cases of abortion. Except we plead for mercy and ask God for forgiveness, their is a stagnant dark spot in our life as a Christian woman which can only be removed by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
3. COVETOUSNESS
It is the 10th commandment that warns the believer against being covetous; not to take anything that does not belongs to you but because of the spirit of the world that blindfolds the gullible ones, they have been carried away with the deception of the world's system and the flashy vanity of the world thereof.

Remember the book of James 1:13-16, speaks of the evil desire of the mind, when one is full of evil passion and does not have self control, stumble and fall woefully to sin.
4. FIGHTING AND WAR
The very reason why we fight amongst ourselves as Christians is because of jealousy i.e when one is envious of his fellow neighbor either for his success or whatsoever and then the person becomes bitter and the seed of hatred will spring within him(Heb 12:15)
That is why God wants us to live in peace with one another.
Being so, fighting is what hinders God from answering our prayers.
5. ASKING AMISS TO SATISFY LUSTS
Whenever one is asked as a believer want he/she wants, the reply is always earthly things.
Even those who ask for the anointing to do signs and wonders, still have hidden desires to gain popularity, knowing that with popularity comes pride and if one is not careful or have the humility of Christ, the humble sprit of Jesus (Mt 11:29), he/ she will fall as Satan fell.
(1 Cor 10:12), only a true believer will ask for the anointing or grace of God to live a holy life and walk with God.
6. ADULTERIES
This is very common among Christians and I'm supposing you're wondering why I say so, well; in christiandom, there are are many idolaters today, there are idols in their hearts that they serve.
As a matter of fact, they pretend to serve and worship God but indulge in all kinds of evil and sinful acts.
Sincerely speaking, in the house if God, many alters have been defiled with every kind of wickedness, fornications, adultery, even the pastors encourage the spirit of many wives or concubines to their flocks. (Mt 19:9)(Rev 2:15)
7. FRIENDSHIP OF THE WORLD
Like the Laodicean church in Rev 3:14-20, they live in affluence and in luxury, neither being hot nor cold for God. They were neither here nor there in their spiritual lives. They love the world system like demons, and at the same time want to be true believers. (6:24)
There are many ways that one can love the world system; the most easiest way is the spirit of lies.
8.PRIDE
Pride is a very dangerous weapon in the enemy's camp; even the mighty believers fail to detect this evil weapon that Satan has used to destroy godly men and women. When fame arrives and at the peak of glory, one should be very careful of the spirit of pride settling in.
As a matter of fact, this was the first sin of the universe(Isa 14:12-14). Pride came through Lucifer when he ruled as the covering cherub at the garden of Eden.
The only antidote for pride is the spirit of humility worn by our Lord Jesus Christ (Mt 11:29), and the promoter of pride is self i.e self exaltation, self glory e.t.c.
9. REBELLION AGAINST GOD
What is rebellion? It means to say NO to what God has commanded you, simple!
If for instance, the bible warns us against telling lies to others and you are still fond of telling lies to others, yet you call yourself a child of God.......... you have rebelled against God!
By rebelling against his word, and against every commandment God had commanded us to keep, we have rebelled against God Himself by doing the opposite of what he commands.

10. BACKSLIDING AND SIN
For one to be referred to as a back slider, he/she must have been a child of God before, and because of a sin the person committed, made he/she a backslider(Heb 10:38-39).
The word of God warns us against backsliding and sin, so in whatever state you are, come back to Christ and pray for the spirit of overcoming sin in Christ Jesus name and also for the power to know the word of God which will enable you to overcome your weakness, temptations or whatever the case may be.

You need to remember to seek spiritual guidance that is according to the true doctrines of our Lord Jesus Christ.
11. DOUBLE-MINDEDNESS OR DOUBT
We all know that when one doubts a thing, it means the person doesn't believe in that thing, and without faith no man can please God (Heb 11:6).
A double-minded person is the one that will pray in the morning and in the next moment, seeking alternative methods to solve his problem. That is why many Christians visit other religious “priests" for solutions to their personal problems, then will come to give testimonies in church, Who are they fooling?! God is watching!!
Whatever one does in the secret will be revealed in the end of time(Mt 7:21-23).
12. MISUSE OF THE TONGUE(Jos 3:11-12)
There is power in the words that proceeds from our tongue whether it is good or bad.
The talkative and those whose hearts and minds are filled with bitterness and hatred (Pro 4:23, Mt 15:18-20).
The scriptures taught that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth will speak. A corrupt mind and heart will always bring out foul languages.
Thus, let your mouth be seasoned with grace so that what comes out will be a blessing and not a curse
